Greene Acres Community Garden Meeting Minutes November 10, 2003 ATTENDEES Karen, Masha, Amanda, Seth, Noah, Vandra, Lisa, Audrey, Dariel, Earlene, Zach AGENDA 1. Introductions. 2. Contractor update. 3. New plots? 4. Garden membership requirements. 5. Old/new business. 1. Introductions. 2. Contractor update. The contractorÑStarkie Brothers LandscapingÑis coming the first week of December for four days. There will be a work day to prepare for the landscaping work on either November 15/16 (Saturday or Sunday) or November 22/23 (Saturday or Sunday). At that workday we will remove the bricks from between the beds and mark the paths we want made permanent. Rainwater ProjectÑThe rainwater collection tank will be positioned so it does not block any of the windows at 347 Greene Avenue. Paths between plotsÑThe gardeners decided to use woodchips for the paths between the boxes. BermÑThere will be a Belgium block retaining wall on the garden side of the berm, and the berm will slope down towards the fence on the Franklin Avenue side and possibly be retained with a one to two foot tall wall. The goal is to maintain access to the Franklin side of the berm. 3. New plots? Is there a need to build more plots? They could be added near the 347 Greene side or near the Paulonia tree. We will call around to assess if there are garden members who do not have plots that want plots and determine if there is a need for more plots, and, if so, how many. 4. Garden membership requirements. Should Greene Acres reduce the volunteer hours required for garden membership? Currently, perspective garden members are required to volunteer for fifteen (15) hours before they are eligible for membership. Gardeners felt that fifteen hours is too many and decided to reduce the number of required volunteer hours. (The rationale behind fifteen hours is to make sure that perspective garden members volunteer at Greene Acres for at least a couple of days to show that they are committed to being an active garden member.) Now, perspective garden members are required to volunteer for six (6) hours spread over at least two (2) separate days. The by-laws will be amended to reflect this change. 5. Old/new business. Here are some issues to discuss at the March 8, 2004 Greene Acres meeting: -Does the garden need more plots? -Better defining the composting membership and responsibilities. -Long-term landscape planning along the Franklin Avenue side of the garden.
